EMDR therapy is a distinct integrative treatment approach with eight phases that is compatible with all of the major orientations to psychotherapy and is highly effective for dealing with difficult or “unprocessed” memories. Dual attention bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tactile taps, auditory tones, butterfly hugs) are all components of EMDR therapy.
The American Psychiatric Association, Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense recommend EMDR as effective in the treatment of intense trauma.
